ASUS introduces the world’s thinnest convertible laptop at only 10.9mm

ASUS is obsessed with making everything thinner at Computex 2017. They have announced several new powerful laptops and one of them is the world’s thinnest 2-in-1 convertible while the other is the thinnest 14″ inch laptop in a compact 13″ laptop chassis.

ASUS ZenBook Flip S – Thinnest Convertible

Designed for flexibility and ultra portability, the ZenBook Flip S is only 10.9mm thin and comes with the world’s most compact 360-degree hinge with its dual-action ErgoLift mechanism. It gets a 13.3″ NanoEdge display that pushes up to 4K UHD resolution with an 80% screen to body ratio. The bezels are super thin at only 6.11mm and it also supports an optional active stylus pen that has 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity.

Under the hood, the ZenBook Flip S runs on Intel’s 7th Gen Core i5/i7 (U Series) processor with spec options up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB of PCIe 3.0 x4 SDD storage. To keep things cool in this 1.1kg convertible, ASUS has included a new liquid-crystal-polymer fan that’s only 0.3mm thin.

Despite its compact size, a full charge is rated to give it 11.5 hours of battery life and it can be replenished quickly at 60% charge in just 49 minutes. It also supports one-touch login with Windows Hello using their smallest ever fingerprint sensor on a laptop. The ASUS ZenBook Flip S is officially priced from US$1,099 (about RM4,693).

ASUS ZenBook 3 Deluxe – Thinnest 14″ laptop

Next is the ASUS ZenBook 3 Deluxe which is now updated with a larger 14″ screen with a 84% screen to body ratio. ASUS is calling it the world’s thinnest 14″ laptop that fits in a chassis of a 13-incher. It weighs just 1.1kg and has a thickness of 12.9mm. The 14″ screen is a Full HD display and it comes with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5, which is a first for a laptop.

Powering the ZenBook 3 Deluxe is the latest 7th generation Intel Core i5/i7 (U Series) with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD. The ZenBook 3 Deluxe has two USB Type-C ports which support ThunderBolt 3 for high-speed 40Gbps data transfers. It’s even powerful enough to hook up two 4K UHD monitors simultaneously. For audio, it gets quad speakers and a Smart Amp with Harmon Kardon certification.

Price for the ZenBook 3 Deluxe starts at US$1,199 (about RM5,120).

ASUS ZenBook Pro

For the ultimate performance in an ultrabook, the latest ZenBook Pro is their most powerful, thinnest and lightest workhorse yet. It runs up to the highest performance 7th Generation Intel Core i7 (7700HQ) processor with up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD.

Unlike the other ZenBooks, it even gets Nvidia GTX1050Ti graphics along with an 15.6″ 4K UHD NanoEdge display. In addition, it also gets a Harmon Kardon certified quad-speaker surround audio system for a more immersive experience. The ZenBook Pro is rated with a 14-hour battery life and it can charge to 60% in just 49 minutes.

With its precision crafted all-aluminium body design, the ZenBook Pro is 18.9mm thin and weighs 1.8kg. As you would expect, the ZenBook Pro is more premium with price starting from US$1,299 (about RM5,547).

ASUS VivoBook S

ASUS hasn’t forgotten about the masses and they have also introduced new affordable models in its VivoBook lineup. The VivoBook S is priced from US$499 (about RM2,131) and it also offers thin and lightweight design.

It comes with a 15.6″ Full HD NanoEdge display with an 80% screen to body ratio. It weighs 1.5kg with a side profile of 17.9mm. You can have it in either Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processor options with up to 16GB of RAM and you can also have it with Nvidia GeForce 940MX graphics.

In terms of storage, it comes with up to 512GB SSD with additional 2TB HDD. Depending on spec options, it also comes with one-touch login with Windows Hello and Backlit Keyboard.

ASUS VivoBook Pro

For something more powerful, there’s the VivoBook Pro 15 which can be spec-ed with a top of the line 7th Gen Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor with 16GB DDR4 RAM and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1050 graphics. The 15.6″ display can push up to 4K UHD and it has twin speakers and smart-amp with Harman Kardon-certified audio.

Storage can be specified up to 512GB SSD + 2TB HDD and it also features dual fans for better cooling. Overall it weighs 2.2kg with a thickness of 19.2mm. The VivoBook Pro is priced from US$799 (about RM3,412) for its base Core i5 model.

According to ASUS, all 5 laptops launched will be coming to Malaysia but we will be getting the ZenBook 3 Deluxe first before the rest arrives.
