The squeezable HTC U11 flagship smartphone is coming to Malaysia on 1st June

HTC Malaysia isn’t wasting any time with its latest flagship smartphone. The HTC U11 is launching in Malaysia next week, which is barely 3 weeks after its official reveal in Taiwan. This is HTC’s first real flagship for 2017 and it succeeds its current HTC 10 flagship smartphone.

To recap, the U11 comes with a 5.5″ QuadHD Super LCD5 display that’s protected by Gorilla Glass 5. It looks more symmetrical than before with the use of 3D glass for both front and back. Powering the U11 is the top of the line Snapdragon 835 processor and for our local market, it will come with 6GB RAM and 128GB of onboard storage that’s expandable via microSD.

The biggest highlight, of course, is its squeezable edge sense where you can launch or perform specific tasks by either short or long squeeze. The U11 is also big on sound with its improved BoomSound HiFi speakers. From our experience, they are noticeably clearer and louder than its current HTC 10. While it lacks a headphone jack, the U11 comes with a pair of USB Type-C based USonic earphones with built-in active noise cancellation. Also bundled in is a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter which also comes with a built-in DAC.

For imaging, the HTC U11 gets a 12MP f/1.7 UltraPixel 3 camera that comes with OIS and dual pixel AF, while the front comes with a 16MP selfie shooter. The U11 is also the current highest rated smartphone camera according to DxOMark and it beats the Google Pixel. For greater protection against the elements, the U11 is also dust and water resistant with an IP67 rating. Keeping the device powered is a 3,000mAh battery and it supports QuickCharge 3.0 charging via USB Type-C.

The HTC U11 Malaysian launch is taking place on 1 June and we’ll be there to cover the event. In terms of pricing, expect it to be somewhere close to the HTC U Ultra Sapphire Edition which is currently going for RM2,999. In terms of colours, HTC Malaysia is bringing 3 options – Amazing Silver, Sapphire Blue and Brilliant Black. The Solar Red option may come to our shores later this year depending on demand.
