These are the purported specs of HTC’s new “squeezable” smartphone

If the current HTC U Ultra isn’t the worthy HTC 10 replacement you’re looking for, the Taiwanese smartphone maker is about to release a new model that’s up to date for 2017. Dubbed as the “Ocean” or possibly called the HTC U 11, the new flagship smartphone will come with better specs and a new interaction that involves squeezing.

According to a new leak, the new HTC flagship will come with a 5.5″ Quad HD SuperLCD display and it would run on the latest 10nm Snapdragon 835 processor with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. Storage wise, it will come either 64GB or 128GB of storage which is still expandable via microSD up to 2TB.

For taking pictures, it will get a newer 12MP UltraPixel 3 camera with a larger f/1.7 aperture that’s assisted by OIS and dual-tone LED flash. Meanwhile, selfies are handled by a 16MP f/2.0 front shooter.

In typical HTC fashion, it still gets a rather small 3,000mAh battery and it charges quickly using QuickCharge 3.0 via USB Type-C. It is likely that this new model will drop the traditional headphone jack as it comes with a pair of USB Type-C based HTC USonic headphones with active noise cancellation. Like the Galaxy S8, it will also support Bluetooth 5.0.

Interestingly, the spec sheet also mentions IP57 dust and water resistance. While it isn’t as great in terms of dust resistance (IP5X), it should be able to withstand being submerged under 1 metre for up to 30 minutes (IPX7). Out of the box, it is listed to run on Android 7.1.1 and it will support HTC’s new Edge Sense which takes advantage of its pressure sensitive sides.

Serial leakster @evleaks had shared the new HTC U’s exterior design and it looks quite similar to the current HTC U Ultra. The camera bump is noticeably smaller and the back appears to retain a 4-way 3D glass design like its current flagship.

The launch is happening on 16 May 2017 at 2PM Malaysian Time. If you haven’t seen it, check out the teaser videos below:
