You may have heard of Lenovo‘s new gaming lineup launch earlier this year. Yep, it’s Legion and the good news is that these affordable gaming laptops — the Y520 and Y720 — have arrived on Malaysian shores.
The Y520 is targetted more at the mass market with good enough specs for comfortable 1080p gaming plus a low price tag. As a result, you can spec it up to a 7th Gen Intel Core i7 Kaby Lake processor with up to 8GB of DDR4 memory. In the graphics department, the Legion Y520 tops out at an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB of GDDR5 memory which is good enough to game on the Y520’s 15.6-inch 1080p IPS display but isn’t really “VR-ready”. If you want more savings, you can also opt for a GTX 1050 (either 2GB or 4GB of GDDR5 memory) instead. For storage, you can configure it to have up to a 256GB SSD.
There are four configurations available for purchase at Lenovo Exclusive Stores and Lenovo Multi-Brand stores:
RM3,299 — Intel Core i5-7300 HQ, 4GB DDR4, GTX 1050 2GB, 1TB HDD (5400 rpm)
RM4,219 — Intel Core i7-7700HQ, 4GB DDR4, GTX 1050 4GB, 1TB HDD (5400 rpm)
RM4,919 — Intel Core i7-7700HQ, 4GB DDR4, GTX 1050 Ti 4GB, 128GB M.2 PCIe SSD, 1TB HDD (5400 rpm)
RM5,419 — Intel Core i7-7700HQ, 8GB DDR4, GTX 1050 Ti 4GB, 256GB M.2 PCIe SSD, 2TB HDD (5400 rpm)
One step up is Lenovo’s Legion Y720 and it’s targetted more towards the enthusiast. As far as specs are concerned, the Y720 features a 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor with 8GB of DDR4 memory which is pretty similar to the Y520.
Where you’ll see the biggest difference, is the graphics card as the Y720 will sport an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 card with 6GB of GDDR5 memory. This card is also “VR-ready” for those who are into VR gaming. For storage, you get a 1TB HDD spinning at 5400 rpm. Lenovo says that they do plan to bring in more variants of the Y720, including one with an SSD configuration, in the near future. For display options, Lenovo says that they’re only planning to bring in the 15.6-inch 1080p IPS display variant instead of the 4K one for now because they feel that the specs are more suited for gaming the former. The Legion Y720 is also the world’s first laptop to receive Dolby Atmos certification.
Lenovo’s Y720 has prices starting from RM6,099 and can be purchased from Lenovo Exclusive Stores and Lenovo Multi-Brand stores at the end of this month.
