Lenovo is trying to get more people to develop Moto Mods for its modular Moto Z family. Now here’s an interesting crowd-funded Moto Mod that lets you stay connected even without mobile or WiFi coverage. Introducing LINC, a walkie-talkie add-on which you can attach to your existing Moto Z and Moto Z Play.
The LINC Moto Mod supports 1-to-1 or 1-to-many communications with a 5-6 mile radius (about 8-9KM). It has a selectable 0.5w/1w/2w RF power output and it supports both VHF and UHF bands. Keeping it powered is its own rechargeable 1,500mAh battery which is rated to last up to 20 hours on standby. The Mod itself is water and dust resistant and it can also broadcast your current GPS to your group without mobile reception.
Using the LINC is quite seamless. Once you’ve attached the Mod to your Moto Z, the ARC controller app will launch automatically. The app helps you to manage your radio channels and you can also use it to send messages. For a rider reach, it also supports radio-over-IP and it can communicate with other two-way radios.
If you don’t have a Moto Z, the LINC will still work with other smartphone via Bluetooth. If you’re interested, you can back LINC on Indiegogo for US$99 (about RM441). At the moment, the project has raised US$4,705 out of its targeted US$12,000 goal and they now have 19 days remaining.
