Moto G5 and G5 Plus revealed ahead of launch

Lenovo will be launching the Moto G5 next week at MWC 2017 in Barcelona. If you can’t wait, we now have the full picture thanks to a premature listing on an online retail site. Fortunately, the photos and hardware specs were captured before the page was pulled down.

The Moto G series has always been the mid-range offering in the Motorola lineup. In its 5th generation, the G5 will be rather compact with a 5.0″ Full HD display when compared to the Moto G4 that has a 5.5″ screen. Meanwhile, the G5 Plus gets a slightly bigger 5.2″ display that also does Full HD resolution. For a more upmarket feel, both models will get a metal body design with subtle curves at the rear.

The standard G5 is more of an entry-level device. It runs on a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 430 octa-core proessor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. You can expand the storage further with microSD up to 128GB extra.

For taking pictures, the G5 gets a 13MP main camera with PDAF and a front-facing 5MP shooter. It is also listed to have a removable 2,800mAh battery that supports fast charging.

Going up a notch is the Moto G5 Plus. Apart from the slightly bigger screen, the G5 Plus packs better hardware with a faster 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 Octa-Core processor with 2GB of RAM. On-board, it has 64GB of storage which is also expandable via microSD.

Photography is better too as it carries a 12MP main camera with dual autofocus pixels while the front carries a 5MP selfie shooter. When compared to the standard G5, the G5 Plus has a large round camera bump similar to the Moto Z/Z Play. The G5 Plus also gets a larger battery at 3,000mAh and it supports TurboPower charging.

Both devices are not waterproof but it does get a water repellent coating for protection against accidental spills. As always, the software experience is rather stock and both Moto G5 and G5 Plus will run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The Moto G5 and G5 Plus also gets a fingerprint sensor in front which looks better than its predecessor.

We will be at the launch that’s happening next Sunday, so stay tuned to us for the latest updates.
