The Galaxy S8 will be Samsung’s largest flagship smartphones yet

Samsung will be giving its next Galaxy smartphones a pass at the upcoming MWC 2017. This gives them extra time to work on the Galaxy S8 which is their biggest release after the Galaxy Note7 fiasco.

To make up for lost ground, the upcoming Galaxy S8 series is gonna be huge. Not just in terms of scale but in display size.

For the Galaxy S8, Samsung will be launching two models but both will feature its signature dual-curved displays. The difference would be on the screen size with a standard sized Galaxy S8 and a larger Galaxy S8+. Serial leakster @evleaks has more or less confirmed this with the logo above.

In the past, Samsung Galaxy S series are often seen as “compact” flagships in comparison to its bigger productivitivy focused Note phablets. Last year, the Galaxy S7 came with a traditional 5.1″ flat display, while the Galaxy S7 edge came with a larger 5.5″ dual-curved screen.

For 2017, Samsung is going much bigger than that. According to @evleaks, the base Galaxy S8 will feature a 5.8″ display and that’s larger than the Note phablet series which tops at 5.7″. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S8+ is purported to have a 6.2″ screen which is almost encroaching tablet territory. Both are said to be having Quad HD resolution on a Super AMOLED panel.

If this is true, this would be their biggest flagship smartphones yet. The display isn’t as big as the Xiaomi Mi MIX and Samsung would definitely try to make it usable with a single hand by reducing the width as much as possible.

As seen in earlier leaks, the Galaxy S8 is expected to lose the iconic home button in favour for a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Another tactic is to have an odd 18:9 display aspect ratio which makes the screen taller instead of being wider.

The Galaxy S8 is expected to be announced as early as end March and that’s just slightly more than a month away. What do you think of the screen size? Do you mind sacrificing the home button for a bigger display? Let us know in the comments below.
