HTC Malaysia is eager to roll out its latest U series in our local market. The new HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play were introduced last month and it offers a curved glass body with emphasis on artificial intelligence on the inside.
The Malaysian launch is taking place next Thursday, 16 February and this is probably one of the fastest roll out we’ve seen from HTC. The HTC U Ultra is their flagship smartphone that runs on a Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. It comes with two screens – a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super LCD 5 display and a secondary 2-inch screen for notifications and shortcuts.
Instead of its traditional metal unibody design, the HTC U series comes with a curved glass back which curves on all four edges. HTC calls it Liquid Surface Design and both front and back looks symmetrical. For taking pictures, it gets a 12MP f/1.8 HTC UltraPixel2 camera that has Laser AF, PDAF and OIS. At the front, it gets a 16MP UltraPixel shooter for selfies.
The HTC U Ultra lacks a headphone jack but it makes up for it by bundling a USB Type-C based headphones that’s called the USonic. It supports Hi-Res audio and it automatically makes audio adjustments by analysing your inner ear with sonar-like pulse. There’s also 4 built-in mics for 3D audio recording. Keeping the lights on is a 3,000mAh battery which charges quickly via Quick Charge 3.0.
If you’re looking for something affordable, the HTC U Play is a smaller 5.2″ smartphone that pushes Full HD resolution. Instead of a Snapdragon 821 unit, it runs on a modest MediaTek P10 processor with 4GB of RAM. It also gets a 64GB on-board storage that’s also expandable via microSD. For imaging, it gets a 16MP f/2.0 cameras for both front and back. Powering the device is a 2,500mAh battery which also charges via USB Type-C. Like the U Ultra, there’s also no headphone jack.
We’ll be there at the launch so stay tuned for official Malaysian pricing and availability. If you haven’t already, do like and follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
