Oh dear. It looks like one of Xiaomi’s upcoming handsets may have just been leaked. No, it’s not the successor to the Mi 5, instead it looks like the alleged successor to Xiaomi’s affordable flagship Redmi Pro.
The handset will supposedly be called the Redmi Pro 2 and it looks like it will succeed Xiaomi’s interesting Redmi flagship launched last year. This information comes in the form of a snapshot of what looks like a powerpoint presentation that the leaker claims is a legitimate product poster for the Redmi Pro 2. Here are the specs:
According to the image, the Redmi Pro 2 will come in two variants. The high-end model will feature 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage for CNY1,799 (around RM1,160). On the other hand, there will also be a cheaper variant packing 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage priced at CNY1,599 (around RM1,030).
One other interesting spec is the device’s processor. According to the screenshot it looks like the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 will come powered by a Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor. This processor is rumoured to be the successor to the Snapdragon 653 so it should pack a punch. In contrast, the current Redmi Pro duo is powered by MediaTek Helio X20 and X25 processors instead.
Besides that, the image also reveals that Xiaomi may be ditching the dual-camera setup they initially went with on the Redmi Pro. On the alleged sequel, Xiaomi is opting for a single Sony IMX362 12-megapixel primary shooter instead. Still it sounds like a capable shooter as it’s supposed to have 1.4 micron pixels and Dual Pixel technology. There is no information on the selfie camera, unfortunately.
Finally, the Redmi Pro 2 will allegedly come with a massive 4,500 mAh battery (up from the Redmi Pro’s 4,050 mAh cell) while retaining the current Redmi Pro’s 5.5-inch OLED screen. It also looks like there will be a brushed metal body plus a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Of course, there is no way to verify this information. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed any of these yet, nor have there been hints regarding a successor to the Redmi Pro so do take this information with a grain of salt.
Still, this looks like an interesting smartphone. What do you guys think?
