Can you get a 4K monitor for the price of a 2K monitor?

Acer Malaysia launched three brand new monitors today. Two of them are targetted at gamers and come with G-Sync and Free Sync. The third, however, is perhaps even more interesting as it’s a 4K UHD 43-inch monitor that’s priced at RM2,299.

Acer ET430K 4K monitor

That’s Acer’s ET430K monitor. It has a 43-inch 4K display pushing 3840×2160 pixels. The monitor runs at 60 Hz with a response time of 5 ms (grey to grey). Besides that, this monitor has a Picture in Picture function that lets you multitask from two different sources at the same time. It also has a pair of 7W speakers for built in audio.

As far as ports are concerned, the ET430K comes with two HDMI v2.0 inputs, one DisplayPort v1.2 DisplayPort out, a mini DisplayPort, SPK and Audio out. It is also able to achieve a peak brightness of 350 nits with a contrast ratio of 100,000,000:1 and 72% NTSC colour gamma.

It also has 10-bit colour with Acer’s BlueLightShield, Flicker-less and ComfyView technology. The monitor is priced at an incredible RM2,299 and is available at all authorised Acer resellers nationwide.

We were honestly quite pleasantly surprised with the price of the monitor especially since it’s one that pushes 4K resolution. It also looks pretty good with relatively thin bezels so that’s a plus. However, the frame of the monitor is made of plastic, so it may not appeal to everyone. But, from what I saw in the demo booth, it looked pretty solid.

Acer XR342CK and Predator XB321HK

Next up, we’ve got the gaming duo. The Acer XR342CK is a 34-inch IPS ultrawide 21:9 curved monitor that pushes a resolution of 3440×1440. It has a refresh rate of 75 Hz and supports AMD’s Free Sync technology. It also has a pair of 7W speakers and a peak brightness of 300 nits.

On the I/O front, the monitor comes with 1 HDMI v2.0, MHL. mini DisplayPort, DisplayPort out and a USB 3.0 hub (4 ports). The Acer XR342CK monitor is priced at RM3,899 and is available at all Acer retailers nationwide.

If curved is not your thing you can opt for the Predator XB321HK gaming monitor instead. This puppy bumps the resolution up to 4K (3840×2160) but the refresh rate drops to 60 Hz. That said, you do get a higher peak brightness of 350 nits and support for NVIDIA’s G-Sync instead.

I/O, you get an HDMI port, a DisplayPort 1.2 and a USB 3.0 hub (4 USB ports). The Predator XB321HK monitor is priced at RM4,799 and is available at all Acer resellers nationwide.
