ASUS is launching two smartphones tomorrow and it will be their first smartphone with Google Tango technology. Expected to be called the ASUS ZenFone AR, it comes equipped with several cameras at the back for augmented reality.
Thanks to serial leakster @evleaks, he has provided a first look of the ZenFone AR design. Over at the front, it gets a rather familiar appearance with a home button (likely doubling as a fingerprint sensor) that’s accompanied with the typical back and recent apps selection. Over at the back is where the AR magic happens. It gets a rather bulky camera module that looks like a Nokia Pureview 808. From what we can see, there’s a triple LED array and a dual-camera setup. Underneath it is probably additional sensors for AR.
The folks at Qualcomm had also jumped the gun by accidentally posting a release for the ASUS ZenFone AR. It says that the ZenFone AR is the world’s first Tango-enabled smartphone to run on their Snapdragon 821 processor. This is probably the most powerful Google Tango device yet since the Lenovo PHAB2 Pro is powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 652 processor with 4GB of RAM. The device is also Daydream View ready which enables immersive mobile VR experiences.
More shall be revealed tomorrow. Apart from the ZenFone AR, ASUS will be releasing its successor of its ZenFone Zoom at CES 2017.
