OPPO R9s is set to launch in Malaysia on 5 January 2017

This could be the first local smartphone launch in 2017. OPPO Malaysia sent out invites for the R9s launch that’s happening next week on 5th January 2017.

To recap, the OPPO R9s is their new photography-centric smartphone that does more than just taking selfies. Apart from having a 16MP front camera, the rear also gets a better 16MP f/1.7 main shooter that features double PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) for quicker focusing. According to OPPO, this offers 40% faster focus than standard PDAF. The camera can shoot 4K videos and there’s also Electronic Image Stabilisation as well.

On the phone itself, it gets a 5.5″ Full HD display with Gorilla Glass 5 that’s encased in an all metal unibody design. Powering the OPPO R9s is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 4GB of RAM. Also included is a generous 64GB of on-board storage that’s expandable via microSD.

Similar to its OPPO F1s, it gets a fast fingerprint sensor upfront and keeping the lights on is a 3,010mAh battery which supports VOOC Flash Charging. In terms of price, expect it to hover around RM2,000 as the R9s is priced at S$679 (about RM2,099) in Singapore.

For the Malaysian market, OPPO Malaysia has appointed Fattah Amin and Min Chen as their ambassadors for the new smartphone. That’s not all. OPPO has one more ambassador which will be revealed on New Year’s Day.

Can you guess who this is?
