Honor Magic goes three way with its curved glass design

To commemorate honor’s 3rd anniversary, they have recently unveiled its new smartphone that’s radically different from the rest. Instead of the usual slab of metal and glass, the new honor Magic brings a breath of fresh air to its design with the use of 3D glass. We’ve seen several dual-curved glass on smartphones but the Magic is also curved at the top.

At the front, the curved AMOLED display is a compact 5.09-incher that pushes a Quad HD display. This calculates to a high pixel density of 577ppi. The front glass panel flows seamlessly into its metal frame that also has subtle curves. The back glass panel is curved too to give a symmetrical look.

Despite its refreshing design, the honor Magic still runs on a Kirin 950 processor which is the same unit that powers last year’s Huawei Mate 8. It appears that Huawei is reserving its latest Kirin 955/960 processors for its own Huawei P/Mate lineup for now. The honor Magic’s processor is mated to 4GB of RAM and there’s 64GB of on-board storage.

Over at the back, it gets a similar dual 12MP f/2.2 camera setup as the honor 8, while the front gets a 8MP f/2.4 selfie shooter. There’s also a “Magic Touch” button below the screen which also doubles up as a fingerprint sensor. There are no back or recent app buttons and those functions are accessible by swiping left and double-tapping on the home button.

Powering the device is a 2,900mAh battery which is charged quickly with its Huawei Magic Power charger. Huawei claims that it could do 40% charge in 10 minutes and 70% charge in 20 minutes.

Apart from the hardware, the biggest highlight is its artificial intelligence and recognition technology. The front WiseScreen sensor allows you to face unlock your phone with greater accuracy. Meanwhile, the honor Magic Live system will understand your usage behaviour and will suggest apps or actions based on your habits.

Similar to the Xiaomi’s Mi Mix, this looks like honor’s new “concept phone” which will be sold for a premium in China. It is priced at 3,699 CNY which is about RM2,383.
