Remember the 2017 Budget announcement about how everyone was getting broadband speed upgrades? No? You can read up on it here. After that announcement, TM themselves gave us a sneak peak into their master plan to carry out the initiatives set out in the Budget. The gist of it is that everyone should get a speed upgrade without paying extra.
If you were at all excited by that and want to capitalise on these free speed upgrades, this may be your last chance as TM rolls out a brand new UniFi promotion that’s valid from the 1st to the 31st of December 2016. Here’s what you need to know.
TM is now offering a special promotion for new subscribers of their UniFi Advance 30 and Advance 50 plans. By default, these plans are valued at RM199/month for the Advance 30 which gives you download speeds of up to 30Mbps and RM249/month for the Advance 50 plans which gives you download speeds of up to 50Mbps.
With this new promotion, TM is bringing the prices down to RM179/month for Advance 30 and RM229/month for Advance 50. This price will be maintained throughout the duration of your plan’s contract.
However, the biggest selling point behind this plan is not the price cut, it’s the fact that if you subscribe to either of these plans before the end of the month, you will be eligible for the free speed upgrade come 2017. This speed upgrade is subjected to technical and service availability. The Terms and Conditions also state that this upgrade will commence in phases starting 1st of April 2017.
Under this free upgrade programme, customers on UniFi Advance 30 will have their download speed bumped up to 50Mbps while users on the UniFi Advance 50 will have their download speeds doubled to 100Mbps.
For existing customers, the deal hasn’t changed so you can also expect to see free speed upgrades come 2017. However, these upgrades will roll out in phases so not everyone will get it immediately. If you’re on the UniFi Pro 100Mbps plan, you will not be receiving a speed upgrade.
We were curious too, so we called TM’s support hotline and long story short, the prices for UniFi would go back to their default values, i.e. RM199/month for Advance 30 and RM249/month for Advance 50. However, the customer service rep also noted that they cannot confirm if there will be further promotions in January of 2017.
So, if you want to enjoy the free speed upgrade in 2017, this may be your last chance.
