When Apple introduced its iPhone 7, many had frown upon the lack of a headphone jack. Now it looks like Samsung’s next flagship will be following the same step by ditching the headphone jack as well.
According to Sammobile, the upcoming Galaxy S8 will lose the headphone jack in favour of USB Type-C. This allows the next flagship to be thinner and possibly freeing up more space to accommodate a larger capacity battery. We don’t know how much thinner the next Galaxy would be but we’ve seen ultra-thin smartphones under 5mm that still manages to retain a headphone jack.
If you prefer to use to your existing pair of headphones, Samsung is likely to bundle a 3.5mm to USB Type-C adapter. There’s still no word on what type of headphones that Samsung will include out of the box but we hope it will be USB Type-C based for a dongle-free experience. According to Sammobile, the Galaxy S8 might also come with stereo speakers that are developed in collaboration with their newly acquired Harman subsidiary.
Another speculation is that the Galaxy S8 will feature a newer AMOLED display that does QuadHD resolution. Using a standard RGB arrangement, the new display is expected to be more power efficient which should improve overall screen on time. The iconic Samsung home button with a built-in fingerprint sensor could also be removed in favour for an ultrasonic unit. The Galaxy S8 is expected to launch at MWC 2017 which is happening in February next year.
