Forget the Porsche Design Mate 9, get the Mate 9 Pro instead

Huawei’s Mate 9 is a pretty exciting device. Not only is it supposed to be the most powerful Android smartphone yet, it also comes in an exciting Porsche Design variant. The thing about the Porsche Design Mate 9 is that it’s incredibly expensive.

If you really dig the Porsche Design’s design, you might be able to pick it up for a more affordable price. Meet the Mate 9 Pro, the Porsche Design Mate 9’s doppelganger.

Not only does it look pretty much exactly the same, both handsets also sport similar hardware. Just recently unveiled in China, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro features a 5.5-inch curved AMOLED display with a quad-HD resolution of 2560×1440 pixels.

Inside, it gets a Kirin 960 octa-core processor with Huawei’s Machine Learning to keep your smartphone running smoother for longer. The processor is paired with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage for quick performance.

In the camera department, it gets the same dual-camera 20MP monochrome and 12MP RGB sensor setup with an f/2.2 aperture lens. There’s also an 8MP selfie snapper in the front with a fast f/1.9 aperture lens.

Keeping the lights on is a 4,000 mAh battery that supports Huawei’s SuperCharge fast-charging technology. As far as software is concerned, it’s running on Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.0 running on top.

So yes, as far as we can tell, it’s pretty much the Porsche Design Mate 9 without the Porsche Design logo and slightly watered down specifications. As a result, it’s a lot cheaper, coming in at just CNY4,699 (around RM2,985) for the 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage while the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage will set you back CNY5,299 (around RM3,366). In contrast, the Porsche Design Mate 9 is priced at CNY8,999 (around RM5,711) for 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
