Samsung Malaysia adds more models to its Galaxy J lineup

The Samsung Galaxy J (2016) series just got a whole lot bigger. These are Samsung’s entry-level smartphones that are positioned below its current Galaxy A series. Targeting at the affordable market, they have introduced its Galaxy J1 mini Prime and the Galaxy J2 Prime that are priced under RM500.

The Galaxy J1 mini Prime is a smaller version of its current J1 (2016). It has a tiny 4.0″ 800×480 display and it runs on a 1.2GHz Quad-Core Spreadtrum SC8830 processor with just 1GB of RAM. On-board it gets 8GB of storage that’s expandable via microSD. There’s a 5MP rear and VGA front camera, removable 1,500mAh battery and it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Connectivity wise, unfortunately, it lacks 4G but it has dual-SIM support in 3G HSPA+. The Galaxy J1 mini prime is officially priced at RM299.

The Galaxy J2 prime is a slightly better device with a 5.0″ qHD (960×540) display. Under the hood, it runs on a 1.4GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MT6737T processor mated to 1.5GB of RAM. Like the J1 mini prime, it gets just 8GB of storage which is expandable via microSD. The cameras are slightly better with a 8MP main and a 5MP selfie shooter. Powering the device is a 2,600mAh battery and it also supports dual-SIMs with 4G LTE connectivity. The Galaxy J2 prime is priced at RM499.

With the two new models, this brings up a total of 10 Galaxy J models for 2016 on our last count. The top of the line model is their Galaxy J7 Prime, priced at RM1,199. That gets a 5.5″ Full HD display, a beefier 1.6GHz Octa-Core Exynos processor, 3GB of RAM and a more generous 32GB of on-board storage. With the price, it is more upmarket with a metal unibody design and it is juiced up with a larger 3,300mAh battery.
