LG G5 and Stylus 2 Plus have officially arrived in Malaysia

The LG G5 which was announced earlier this year has finally arrived in Malaysia. This is LG’s attempt on a modular phone that has a metal unibody design while retaining a removable battery.

UPDATE: Both DirectD and SatuGadgetDotCom are now offering the LG G5 at RM2,299.

The LG G5 is officially priced at RM2,699 in Malaysia and it is available on both DirectD and SatuGadgetDotCom. In terms of specs, it gets a 5.3″ Quad HD display with an always-on screen feature and under the hood, it is powered by a Snapdragon 820 Quad-Core processor with 4GB of RAM. On-board, it gets 32GB of storage which is expandable via microSD up to 2TB. For Malaysia, we are getting the Dual-SIM unit.

LG G5 has a dual-camera set up with a standard 16MP camera with OIS for normal shots while the secondary 8MP camera takes 135-degree wide angle stills. For selfies, they are handled by its 8MP front shooter.

Juicing up the LG G5 is a 2,800mAh battery which can be replaced by removing the bottom chin of the device. It also supports QuickCharge 3.0 and it uses USB Type C. According to LG, a 0-80% charge can be accomplished in just 35 minutes. For its always-on display, LG claims that it is frugal despite using an IPS-LCD panel. With the feature enabled, it claims to consume just 0.8% of battery per hour.

The heart of the G5’s modular design is its magic slot which allows you to swap the bottom chin for various add-ons. They have LG CAM Plus camera grip which gives you extra controls and a B&O powered LG HiFi Plus DAC module. Out of the box, it runs on Android Marshmallow with LG’s own UI on top.

For RM2,699, the LG G5 is somewhat outpriced when you compare it with other flagship contenders. Furthermore, the 7 months delay has affected its appeal especially when LG has a newer V20 flagship smartphone with Android Nougat out of the box. What stands out is that the LG G5 is the only Android flagship smartphone that offers both microSD and removal battery plus the ability to add on different modules, that is if you’re willing to fork out more for its accessories. Also included is a free battery charging kit worth RM299.

LG Stylus 2 Plus

Also quietly introduced to our market is the LG Stylus 2 Plus, an entry-level phablet that comes with a stylus. It gets a 5.7″ Full HD and it runs on a Snapdragon 430 processor with 3GB RAM and 16GB of storage that’s also expandable via microSD. It also features a 16MP main camera and an 8MP front shooter for all your imaging needs. Powering the device is a 3,000mAh battery and it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The LG Stylus 2 Plus with official LG Malaysia warranty is going for RM1,399 on DirectD.
