Xiaomi Redmi 3S to go on sale in Malaysia soon

UPDATE: Xiaomi Redmi 3S is officially priced from RM599 in Malaysia. More details here.

This year Xiaomi has released a mid-range device, a flagship and a huge phablet in Malaysia. The missing piece left is an entry-level smartphone below RM600.

If you’ve been longing for a cheap and cheerful device, Xiaomi Malaysia is about to introduce its new Redmi 3S in our market very soon.

The Redmi 3S is their updated entry-level smartphone that was first announced in June this year. It replaces the original Redmi 3 which wasn’t introduced officially in our local market. Like most Xiaomi smartphones announced recently, the Redmi 3S gets a full metal unibody design with a subtle curved back.

In terms of specs, it has a 5″ HD 720p display and it runs on an Octa-Core Snapdragon 430 processor that comes with an Adreno 505 GPU. When it was announced globally, Xiaomi offers two specs – 2GB RAM + 16GB of storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB of storage.

For imaging, it gets a 13MP /f2.0 main camera with PDAF and it is capable of shooting full HD 1080p videos. Meanwhile, the front gets a 5MP f/2.2 camera with a host of beautification features. Keeping the lights on is a 4,100mAh battery which Xiaomi reckons can last up to two days. Connectivity wise, it is a dual-SIM device that’s compatible with 4G LTE FDD-LTE and TD-LTE bands along with VoLTE support. The hybrid slim slot accepts a Micro-SIM with a combination of another nano-SIM or microSD card up to 128GB.

As mentioned earlier, there are 2 options that are differentiated by its RAM and storage. For the higher-spec model, it gets an extra rear-mounted fingerprint scanner that unlocks at a single tap. From Xiaomi’s teaser image above, it looks like we will be getting the higher spec variant at the very least. In India, the Redmi 3S base model is going for 6,999INR (about RM433) while the higher spec Prime model is going for 8999INR (about RM555). Our guess is that both should be priced under RM600 in Malaysia.

The full details will be revealed tomorrow, 15 September at 12:00PM. Looking at the recent Mi 5 and Mi Max releases, Xiaomi is likely selling it through a local distributor instead of its own online store.
