The ZTE Axon 7 has finally arrived in Malaysia and it offers top of the line hardware with great emphasis on sound. If you’re looking for a different flagship smartphone, this could be the alternative that you have been looking for.
In terms of build, the Axon 7 gets premium metal unibody design with smooth edges all round. Over at the front, it gets a 5.5″ Quad HD AMOLED display that’s protected by a 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4. The back also has a one touch fingerprint scanner which unlocks instantly.
Under the hood, the Axon 7 is on par with its flagship rivals. It runs on a 2.15GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor mated with 4GB of RAM. For storage, it has 64GB UFS 2.0 storage which is further expandable via microSD on its hybrid dual-SIM tray slot.
For imaging, it gets a 20MP f/1.8 main camera that’s assisted with OIS, EIS and PDAF. It also shoots 4K videos and has a dual-tone LED flash for illumination. Meanwhile, the front gets an 8MP f/2.2 selfie shooter with a wide 88-degree angle lens.
The Axon 7 is also big on sound with AK4961 + AK4490 audio processor as well as a pair of dual front-facing speakers with Dolby ATMOS and Dolby Digital Surround sound enhancement. Powering the device is a 3,250mAh non-removable battery which can be charged quickly via QuickCharge 3.0 with a USB Type-C port.
Out of the box, it runs on Android Marshmallow and it’s upgradable to Android 7.0 Nougat. For greater assurance, ZTE is throwing in a Privilege Protection offering which covers you with a 2-year warranty, free one-time screen damage repair (first 6 months) and free one-time water damage repair (within 24 months warranty).
The ZTE Axon 7 is officially priced at RM1,999 which is quite competitive for the spec it’s offering. The closest rival would be the OnePlus 3 but that comes with a 5.5″ Full HD display instead of a Quad HD unit. Pre-orders for the Axon 7 will start today on Lazada Malaysia until 10 September with full availability on 13 September. Only Ion Gold colour is offered at the moment, while the Quartz Grey option will be arriving in October. For the first 30 customers, ZTE Malaysia will be giving away a ZTE VR headset worth RM399.
ZTE Malaysia is also embarking on a nationwide tour with its mobile experience store truck. So if you’re interested in trying it out, it will be heading to 10 cities across West Malaysia at selected shopping malls, colleges, universities and residential areas.
