Apart from Google (Android 7.0), Xiaomi is also rolling out its latest OS, MIUI 8, starting today. This is the global stable build for users outside of China and it is being released in stages according to phone models.
Beginning today (23rd August), the following devices will be getting the update via OTA (Over the Air):
Redmi 1S
Mi 2/2S
Mi 4i
Redmi Note 3G
Redmi Note 4G
If you’re using one of the models above, you can check manually by going into Settings > About phone > System Updates.
Some Redmi Note 2 and Redmi 2 users will be getting the OTA update today and it should be available to all by 25th August 2016. As for other phone models including the Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 5, Mi Note and Mi Max, Xiaomi will be releasing the update later in phases. We have updated our Mi 4i unit to MIUI 8 and surprisingly it is still running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
The new MIUI 8 is the latest iteration of Xiaomi’s custom ROM which brings a couple of new features and design tweaks. It comes with native scrolling screenshot, a quick ball one-handed control tool, improved video editing and the ability to sign in two accounts with its Dual App feature. This allows you to login two separate accounts for Facebook and WhatsApp on the same phone.
