Samsung Malaysia introduces its affordable Galaxy J 2016 series

If you’re in the market for entry-level devices, Samsung has just launched their Galaxy J (2016) series in Malaysia. It comes in 3 models namely Galaxy J1 (2016), Galaxy J5 (2016) and Galaxy J7 (2016) with prices starting from RM449.

The Galaxy J1 (2016) is their most affordable of the lot with a 4.5″ WVGA AMOLED display and it runs on a Quad-Core 1.3GHz processor mated to 1GB of RAM.

Onboard it gets 8GB of storage that’s expandable up to 128GB extra via microSD. It also packs a basic 5MP f/2.2 main + 2MP front camera combo and powering the device is a 2,050mAh battery. The Galaxy J1 is priced at RM449.

Moving up a notch is their Galaxy J5 (2016) that’s priced at RM849. It gets a modest 5.2″ HD AMOLED display along with a 1.2GHz Quad-Core processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

The cameras are better too with a 13MP f/1.9 main shooter while selfies are taken by a 5MP shooter. Keeping the lights on is a larger 3,000mAh battery.

The Galaxy J7 (2016) is the biggest of the lot with a 5.5″ HD AMOLED screen and it runs a 1.6GHz Octa-Core processor. Similar to the J5, it gets 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage that can be expanded with microSD. The rest of the specs are similar but it has a slightly larger battery capacity at 3,300mAh. The Galaxy J7 is going for RM1,049.

For the budget conscious data user, the new Galaxy J series (except J1) boasts an Ultra Data Saving feature that helps to save up to 50% on data using Opera Max compression technology. With UDS mode enabled, users can save up to 62% data on Instagram and up to 46% on YouTube. Not only it makes your web browsing faster but it also helps to extend your battery life by restricting background data use.

All models support dual-SIM with 4G LTE. In conjunction with the launch, all Galaxy J (2016) buyers will get a Yes 4G LTE SIM Card that comes with 30GB data valid for 2 months. Yes claims to have the widest 4G network (inclusive of WiMAX) at 85% population coverage but according to the fine print, it seems that coverage isn’t available yet in Sarawak.

The Galaxy J (2016) series will be available starting tomorrow, 16 June. For more info, head over to the respective Galaxy J1, J5 and J7 product pages. You can check out the next page for more photos.
