Samsung Galaxy J (2016) is launching in Malaysia with a new 4G LTE service?

After introducing the Galaxy A (2016) series, Samsung Malaysia is now turning its attention to its new Galaxy J series for 2016. These are their entry-level offering which helped to drive volumes for the Korean smartphone maker. There will be 3 models – the Galaxy J1, J5 and the J7.

Unlike other events, this launch involves a telco which has been quiet for some time. If you can’t wait for webe, this could be the next telco to look out for.

In the official invite, it was mentioned that Samsung and Yes will be unveiling a special surprise. What could this be? We believe it is more than just a device bundling as they have already done so with the latest flagships. If Yes wants to make a comeback, it would probably be their new 4G LTE service.

Since late last year, you probably can detect a new mobile network that carries the network code of 502-152. According to MCMC’s assignment list, this belongs to YTL Communications and they have access to 2600MHz spectrum for LTE services.

Just like P1 (now known as Webe), they started off as a 4G WiMAX operator more than 5 years ago. Back then, they stood out in terms of service availability especially its wide coverage throughout the North South highway. Another unique feature for Yes is its ID based access, whereby you can use a single username to access their service on multiple devices. This allows seamless access and it makes sharing easier for the whole family. They tried to get into the mobile telephony service with the Yes Buzz and Yes Eclipse but it was less ideal compared to the competition at that time.

With Yes switching on its LTE network, they might beat Webe in becoming the 5th LTE telco in Malaysia. If this is it, lets hope they are ready with actual consumer plans. We’ll find out for sure next week, so stay tuned for updates.
