LG announces that they’ll release two flagships in 2016

On the whim of posting their Q4 earnings for last year, the South Korean manufacturer has stated that they’ll release not one but two flagships this year. Wholly, LG made some profit but their mobile division failed to bear fruit losing roughly US$ 39 million.

During the last quarter, they sold 15.3 million smartphones ending the year with only 59.7 million units sold – numbers that pale in comparison to their competitors. While that’s all the same, their latest results does better themselves when they sold 59.1 devices in 2014. Many have pointed towards the success of the V10 when launched in certain markets.

The tech multinational foresees that competition in the smartphone segment is going to be real stiff. They anticipate that pricing and  is going to be a key factor in this space. The same can be said for the cost of premium materials and better processors slowly dipping.

Touching on the topic of newer OEMs gaining traction by packing all they can in their devices, LG is probably realising that Huawei and Xiaomi are a big threat. Now at least, they’re recognising that publically and have assured that their lower to mid-range devices will get some new additions as well.

It’s clear that the one of those flagships will be released during MWC 2016, with a February 21st announcement date already written in the books. They’ve been many rumours with some going as far as suggesting a modular battery slot.

Well, whatever the case, come February LG will be in a stare down with Samsung to see which flagship gets more attention. It’ll be a battle of South Korea and we can’t wait to see who puts out a better device.
