Huawei seems to have trademarked the word “MateBook”. What could it be?

No, you didn’t read that wrongly, we said MateBook, not MacBook.

Huawei has apparently gone to great lengths to put ownership on a name that we’d never expect. This comes after news that Chinese tech conglomerate will be entering the PC market in the near future. Supposedly, making a hybrid device that’ll rival the Microsoft’s Surface and other PC-makers’ 2-in-1s.

PCs are making a comeback, no not those big towers but ultrabooks and convertibles. But what hopes does Huawei have on entering the market that has been established for so long? And what operating system will they settle for?

Earlier rumours detailed that it might be a dual-boot system that’ll have both Windows and Android but no one has offered anything like that out of the box. We’re not entirely convinced that will happen but it’s plausible that it’ll be offered in two OS options like how Xiaomi has just done with the Mi Pad 2.

Entering a new market is an ambitious decision and the branching out from networking and telecommunications devices, something that Xiaomi did really early on. They’ve made air purifiers, TVs, routers, and etc. Huawei focuses on the telco side of things, providing network solutions and the works. Of course, to most of the world they’re known for the smartphones they put out but in those markets mentioned earlier, they’re really big too.

We’re going to see more Mate(s) than we have ever before. If this trademark is anything to go by and April will be the month to watch out for when Huawei’s factories will apparently start churning out these computers.

The market is already so saturated and unless Huawei makes something that changes it all, they might fail in getting the attention of customers who’d rather trust established brands. Not all times have trademarked terms came to something so it could just mean Huawei is setting aside a just-in-case if they were to release a laptop of some sort.
