Xiaomi announces a higher spec Redmi Note 3

Xiaomi looks to have a knack for outing more than one version of their devices. The latest Redmi Note 3 Pro that runs a Qualcomm processor, instead of a MediaTek chipset – that’s not all either, they’ve upgraded the internals as well.

The Redmi Note 3 Pro maintains the form factor and metal make but swaps out the MediaTek Helio X10 SoC for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 (previously named the Snapdragon 618).

Its new Hexa-core 64-bit processor is clocked at 1.8GHz coupled with an Adreno 510 GPU and allows the Redmi Note 3 Pro to support faster LTE speeds (Cat.7) and depending on telcos, it has future-proof support for VoLTE (Voice over LTE) too. Xiaomi ups the camera credentials of the Redmi Note 3 Pro by adding a 16-megapixel rear sensor that has an aperture of f/2.0 and PDAF (Phase detection autofocus). Bettering the non-Pro version by 3-megapixels. On the front, you’ll still find the 5-megapixel camera.

Otherwise, it maintains the same spec sheet as the Redmi Note 3, keeping the sleek metal and fingerprint sensor on the Pro. Here’s a recap if you missed out; the smartphone will carry a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution display, in two different RAM/internal storage options: 2GB/16GB or 3GB/32GB. When deciding to purchase the device, keep in mind that Xiaomi still left out a microSD slot so choose the 3GB/32GB version if you have the cash. 

MIUI forum states that on AnTuTu’s most recent Benchmark 6.0 it registered a score of 77,592. A respectable score for a mid-range device. Those in India could see the Redmi Note 3 Pro arrive in their market soon enough, with Xiaomi starting a Redmi Note 3 Explore challenge in the country. Allowing 100 lucky fans a chance of winning the device if they manage to complete 100 missions.

As for the Chinese market, the 2GB/16GB model will go for 999 Yuan (RM 665). Pricing for the 3GB/32GB model is expected at a later date. The battery cell is rated at 4,050 mAh and you’ll be getting MIUI 7 out of the box.
