No new Sony smartphones made their way to the CES 2016 floor this year in a strange exception for the Japanese manufacturer. Usually adopting a twice in one year refresh for their devices, Sony decided to focus instead on marketing and promoting its current generation of smartphones.
And they haven’t disappointed either.
Take a look at their latest video that attempts to put a dozen Xperia Z5 Compacts shooting 4K in harmony; that works out to 12 4K Sony sensors or “48K” of sheer madness.
The final result? Mind blowing 360-degree views of the Les Deux Alps in France.
Gape and stare in awe taking in footage from the icy slopes, snowboarders zooming down the course and the panorama views as they bask in the sun while out in the snow – yes it sounds as majestic as you think.
Marking their innovative bid in creating a custom 3D printed rig just for the occasion, this breathtaking scene was more to show off their camera capabilities opposed to the prowess of Sony’s creative R&D team. But they deserve their fair share of credit.
Editing this video that took place at the Rise Ski and Snowboard Festival in the French Alps, was probably a daunting task given that you could barely see any video stitching or gaps.
You can also expect a lot of retouching as when we tried out the Sony Xperia Z5 Dual’s video capabilities, we weren’t too happy with the quality of the content BUT the company’s SteadyShot video stabilisation was really amazing.
Just to recap, Sony’s Z5 line all carry the same 1 / 2.3-inch 23-megapixel Sony Exmor RS sensor. Its hybrid autofocus has Sony boasting about a 0.03-second speed; you’ll be able to take stills and video up to 12800 (Photo) and 3200 (Video).
This would probably be a good time to grab a VR headset, you can find some of them here on our Ultimate Gadget Gift Guide. Maneuver and interact with the 360-degree YouTube video and take your time looking around.
