Xiaomi announces the Redmi Note 3: an affordably priced metal-clad phablet

Blowing away competition during Single’s Day is no easy feat. Especially when consumers in China are so spoiled for choice when it comes to mobile electronics. Xiaomi lead the pack during the momentous day, raking in a cool RM 856 million but was that enough reason for them to release the Redmi Note 3 so early? Well they did it anyway, and for the first time it features an all-metal design, biometric security and a huge battery.

The Chinese manufacturer places high hopes on their most “premium” (if that word is fair) Redmi Note to date. Let’s talk about how it has changed, taking over the Redmi Note 2 in the most casual way possible; the biggest change would be the utilisation of a smooth metal finish – made by sandblasting the metallic layer.

Surrounding the smartphone with the element and curving at the edges. Apparently, these curves will make the device more ergonomic when held, it’ll also just weigh 164grams, 4g heavier than the smartphone it replaces. Even with its massive 4000 mAh battery, the Redmi Note 3 will only be 8.65mm thick. They’ve managed to do this by using a 690Wh/L high density battery, that saves space underneath frame.

Something really different this time around, the Redmi Note 3 will include a rear fingerprint sensor – a feature that has never been seen on older Xiaomi devices. They promise that you’ll be able to get into your device in less than 0.3seconds with the touch of your fingerprint. As far as recognition goes, the Redmi Note 3 will store up to 5 fingerprints, if you’d want to give other prying individuals the ability to unlock your pocket companion. It’ll also give you access to make secure payments through the aforementioned sensor.

Otherwise it says relatively the same – which wasn’t awful to begin with. Here’s a recap on those specs: A MediaTek Helio X10 processor underneath the 5.5-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) screen. It’ll have 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, while there will be a 13-megapixel shutter on the rear. Moving your way up front, you’ll be greeted by a 5-megaxpiel sensor.

A power-packed package with near flagship like specs, since they’ve added a 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory option. Oh and did we mention; it’ll sell from RMB 899 (RM 596) and be available in 3 colours – Silver, Dark Grey and Gold. The higher end 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM will go for RMB 1,099 ( RM 728)

Going full mental (oops metal), Xiaomi has a lot going for it with its new smartphone and we expected the device to sell for at least RM 800 in Malaysia, but we’ll only know for sure when/if it arrives here.
