Pictures of the rumoured successor to Samsung’s Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 have been leaked, showcasing the phone’s front, rear, and bottom physical features. Shots of the phones’ “About device” screen has also been shown, indicating that the new phones would be named the Galaxy A3 (2016) and the Galaxy A5 (2016).
The introduction of the Galaxy A duo really signaled the South Korean manufacturer’s intention to bring a more premium construction to its midrange lineup. From what we can tell, the new phones seem to have a design similar to Samsung’s flagships, the Galaxy Note5 and the Galaxy S6.
Both models sport a glass like material for the front and back panels with a metal frame running between them around the phone. The speaker grilles are located at the bottom of the phone along with a headphone jack, Micro-USB port and a microphone. Around the back, both phones sport a rear camera in the top middle section of the back panel along with an LED flash right beside it.
Although phone specifications were not revealed at this point in time, previous performance leaks indicate that the Galaxy A3 (2016) will feature a 4.7-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) display, a slight bump up from the existing model, and will have an Exynos 7580 quad-core processor, clocked at 1.5GHz, paired with 1.5GB of RAM under the hood.
In a separate leak, NDTV Gadgets 360 reports that the Galaxy A5 (2016) is rumoured to feature a 5.2-inch full-HD display, which is also a slight increase in size compared to the existing model. Internals include Samsung’s octa-core Exynos 7 processor clocked at 1.6GHz paired with an ARM Mali-T720 GPU and 2GB of RAM.
Both phones share a 16GB internal storage and are rumoured to run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, but we do hope that by the time the phones are launched they would be running on Android M instead. What’s peculiar here though is that the leaked specifications for the Galaxy A3 (2016)’s camera puts it at 13 megapixels for the rear shooter and 5 megapixels for the front facing camera, which is better than the Galaxy A5 (2016)’s purported 12-megapixel rear camera and 4.7-megapixel front camera. That said, the Galaxy A5’s camera could have a newer sensor with a larger pixel size which can result in better photos.
The current Galaxy A3 is equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front facing camera versus the Galaxy A5’s 13-megapixel primary and 5-megapixel secondary shooter.
