BlackBerry PRIV passes SIRIM certification in Malaysia

The new BlackBerry PRIV appears to be heading to Malaysia very soon as it has received the green light from SIRIM with the model number STV100-3. Being a symbol of Privilege and Privacy, the PRIV aims to be the most secure device that runs on Android. On top of that, it offers the best of both worlds featuring a touch-enabled double curve display and a full QWERTY keyboard in a single package.

To recap on the specs, the PRIV gets a 5.4″ Quad HD display and underneath it runs on a Hexa-Core Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB of RAM. 32GB of storage comes as standard but you’ll get expandability up to 2TB via microSD. For pictures, BlackBerry is fitting a 18MP main camera, while the front gets a modest 2MP shooter for selfies.

To support the busy executive routine, the PRIV gets a large 3,410mAh capacity battery which should last a whole day. Out of the box, it runs on Android Lollipop along with various BlackBerry apps that are made available on the Google Play Store. The PRIV is expected to be a game changer with a widely adopted operating system that’s backed with BlackBerry’s reputable services. The end goal for the Waterloo company is to sell 5 million units, or else they might just call it quits on the mobile business.

If you’re interested, the PRIV won’t come cheap and it is more expensive than its current BlackBerry Passport. Pre-orders have started in the US and in the UK at US$699 (about RM2,984) and 559 Pounds (about RM3,653) respectively. This is likely to cost more than a Galaxy S6 edge+ once it gets here.
