Two is better than One: LG V10 is a new flagship phablet with dual screen and dual front cameras

The awaited LG V10 and it has quite similar underpinnings as the G4 but with a lot of new extras. At 5.7 inches, it is a phablet and could replace the ageing G Pro 2.

Boasting a multimedia rich experience, the biggest highlight of the V10 is its dual-screen approach. Unlike Samsung’s “Edge” display on the Galaxy Note Edge and S6 edge series, the secondary display is a tiny strip that’s placed at the front, at top right of the main screen. The always-on display which claims to have no impact on battery life and it can be used for status, shortcuts, displaying next appointment and more.

Like its current LG G4, it uses a Quad HD (2560×1440) IPS Quantum Display that’s bigger at 5.7 inches with a pixel density of 513ppi. Meanwhile the secondary ticker display is also a IPS Quantum Display unit with a 2.1″ unit doing 160×1040 pixel resolution.

For better durability, the V10 has a Dura Guard frame that protects the display from hard bumps and tumbles. The frame is made of SAE grade 316L stainless steel and it protects the most vulnerable areas around the edge and corners. The back and bottom of the device gets a softer material called Dura Skin that’s resistant to scratches. With a grid pattern design, the V10 gets a more reassuring grip when held in the hands.

Under the hood, it gets a Snapdragon 808 Hexa-Core processor and it is mated with 4GB of LPDDR-3 RAM. For imaging, it retains a similar 16MP f/1.8 camera as the LG G4 that also comes with OIS 2.0. In addition, it also gets 3 directional mics which you can be manipulated fully with its Manual Video mode. If you love taking 4K videos, storage shouldn’t be an issue with a 64GB of on-board storage and it still comes with a microSD slot supporting up to 2TB. For the professionals, it has an extensive manual mode and you can even shoot videos in 21:9 aspect ratio.

Over at the front, LG wants to take Selfie and Groufie pictures to the next level with not one but two 5MP cameras with each doing 80 degree and 120 degree wide angle respectively. With the two cameras combined, it can produce a wide angle shot without the need of having a selfie stick. Keeping the lights on is a 3,000mAh capacity battery which is also removable.

In terms of connectivity, it supports Cat 6 4G LTE, 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and it still uses microUSB 2.0. Overall it is 8.6mm thick and it weighs quite a heft at 192g, similar to an iPhone 6s Plus.

The LG V10 will be available starting in Korea this month and it will be released later in other regions including Asia, US, China, Latin America and Middle East. Looks like a complete package if you’re looking for a phablet for videos and photos, don’t you think? After all, the camera of the LG G4 is a top pick as chosen by our readers.
