Well, look what we have here. Ahead of Sony’s announcement this coming Monday, we get to see 2 new Xperia devices in its full glory with the Xperia C5 Ultra and a compact Xperia M5. For those longing for a large phablet from Sony, the Xperia C5 Ultra features a huge 6″ display but it is slightly bigger than most 5.5″ smart phone thanks to its ultra-thin bezels.
Meanwhile the Xperia M5 looks like a budget and compact version of the Xperia Z3+ but it features a newer 21MP Sony IMX230 camera sensor. This is the same 21MP shooter that’s found on the Honor 7 and the recently announced Moto X.
If you’re looking to replace your 6.44″ Xperia Z Ultra, the Xperia C5 Ultra could be a worthy successor. The front gets a 6″ Full HD display which comes with an almost bezel-less display. The side frame is only 0.8mm thin, which gives an illusion of an edge to edge display. As speculated earlier, it gets a similar underpinnings as the Xperia C4 with a MediaTek MT6752 processor mated to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.
For imaging, it gets 13MP cameras for both front and back, and the front even comes with its own LED flash. This puts it head on with the Desire EYE which also comes with a similar dual-13MP combo set up. In terms of battery, it gets a 2,930mAh capacity unit (similar to the Xperia Z3+) which is quite small considering this is a large 6″ device.
Next is the Xperia M5 which comes as a surprise. It gets the same omni-balance design of its Xperia Z series and it even comes with a glossy plastic bumper on each corner, like the Xperia Z3+.
Under the hood, it gets some flagship credentials with a 2GHz MediaTek Helio x10 processor mated to 3GB of RAM and an expandable 16GB of storage. The screen is a 5″ Full HD IPS unit and keeping the lights on is a 2,600mAh capacity battery which is rated to last up to 2 days on a single charge.
The star of the show of course is the camera, which was teased being capable of shooting split-second images. This is none other than Sony’s newer IMX230 21MP camera that features Phase Detection Auto Focus. It boasts faster focus of 0.2 seconds, allowing you to capture fast moving objects with ease. For selfies, it gets a 13MP front shooter, similar to the Xperia C5 Ultra.
The Xperia M5 is said to be 7.6mm thick and it is waterproof as well with IP65/68 rating even with its microUSB port exposed. In summary, this could be a worthy successor of the Xperia Z3 Compact, offering high-end specs in a mini package.
