Xiaomi Mi Note to launch in Malaysia next week?

If you’re looking for a flagship phablet from Xiaomi, the Mi Note could be heading to Malaysia very soon. Xiaomi has sent out invites for a local launch event that’s happening next week on 22nd July. The Mi Note which was launched in China earlier this year had passed its SIRIM certification several months ago but it remained exclusive for the Chinese market until now. Just recently, Mi Hong Kong has announced that it will commence Mi Note sales starting next Tuesday and it looks like the 5.7″ phablet is rolling out to more international markets in the coming weeks.

To recap on the specs, the Mi Note has a 5.7″ Full HD display, 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 Quad-Core processor with 3GB RAM and comes with either 16GB or 64GB of storage. At the back, it has a 13MP OIS main and a front facing 4MP shooter, that’s similar to HTC’s Ultrapixel camera. Keeping the lights on is a 3,000mAh capacity battery and overall it weighs 161 grams with a thickness of 6.95mm. the display like the Mi 4i has pixel level adjustments which self optimises for better visibility under bright daylight.

In terms of build, the Mi Note gets a premium metal frame with a glass back that curves towards the sides. It is a dual-SIM device and as usual, it won’t get microSD expansion like the rest of their flagship products.

For those who want something better, there’s a Mi Note Pro which is not likely to debut in the coming launch next week. That gets a 2K Quad HD display, a 2GHz Snapdragon 810 Octa-Core processor and 4GB of LP-DDR4 RAM. On the exterior it shares the same dimensions but it gets a distinctive gold colour frame to separate itself from the standard Mi Note.

If we are getting the same treatment as Hong Kong, we could be getting the larger 64GB version. It is sold at 2,999 HKD (about RM1,473) in Hong Kong and 2,499 CNY (about RM1,533) in China. So it looks like it could be priced around the RM1,500 range when it gets here. We’ll be at the launch so stay tuned for more details.
