Samsung Galaxy S6 tops Antutu Benchmarks for the first half of 2015

When the Galaxy S6 was announced, it whooped other devices on Antutu benchmarks by a huge margin. With half of 2015 gone and there are newer flagships sporting Qualcomm’s top of the line Snapdragon 810 processor, the Galaxy S6 continues to reign supreme thanks to its 64-bit 14nm Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of LP-DDR4 RAM and a faster Universal Flash Storage.

Antutu has just released a summary of top performance devices for the first half of 2015 where the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge occupies the top 2 spots with over 60,000 points, followed by Xiaomi’s Mi Note Pro at over 57,000 points. The Mi Note Pro is the highest performing Snapdragon 810 smart phone to date, and it uses the latest V2.1 processor version with better cooling and it is mated to 4GB of LP-DDR4 RAM.

The list continues with LeTV’s 1 Pro, ZTE Nubia Z9 Max and also HTC One M9, scoring slightly above the 50,000 mark. At the moment, only the Exynos 7420 processor on the S6/S6 edge has managed to break the 60,000 barrier which accounts to 20% share of top performing devices tested on Antutu. Qualcomm’s former flagship processor, the Snapdragon 805 also takes up 20% share on Antutu. The new MediaTek MT6795 processor which currently powers the HTC One M9+ holds just 10%, while Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 810 holds the biggest share at 50%.

Looking at the trend throughout the past few years, 2015 marks an exponential growth in top-line performance where we see a jump of nearly 20,000 points from 2014. As comparison, the previous years had leaped about 13,000-14,000 points on an annual basis. It is also worth pointing out that Samsung is getting better with its in-house processor development and they are slowly reducing its dependency on Qualcomm chips, at least for its high-end models for now. Even Huawei’s Hi-Silicon processors are getting better since its Kirin 920 that made its debut on the Honor 6.

Meanwhile Qualcomm, which was once the dominant choice for top up smart phones is having a rough time battling its Snapdragon 810 processor issues. Even for the upcoming OnePlus 2, the processor will be clocked at a lower 1.8GHz speeds for better thermal performance and stability. Qualcomm hopes to make up for lost ground with their upcoming Snapdragon 820 processor which is expected to be available by end 2015 or early 2016.
