Want to get the iPhone 6? This is probably the easiest way to make the switch

This post is brought to you by Maxis – Experience the Difference.

Always wanted to own the latest iPhone 6 but its high price is holding you back? Here’s an easier way switch from your current device with the Maxis iPhone Trade-Up Program.

From now until 31st July, you can trade up from any smart phone and enjoy extra savings when you sign up with Maxis. According to them, they will accept any device even though it’s not functioning anymore, as long as there are no signs of bloated battery, and if it’s an iPhone, it has to be unlocked.

All models will be accepted from the old non-touch enabled feature phones to the new mainstream models. If you lost the box and original charger, no worries as Maxis requires just the phone for this programme. Just make sure it is in good condition with a stylus included (if it originally comes with one).

So much does your old phone cost? Let’s find out.

We got a bunch of old phones and we visited our local phone shops to get an estimate of its trade-in values. Our collection includes a Galaxy S4 (with a cracked screen), Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, HTC One M7, Nokia N8, Nokia E5, Nokia X3 feature phone and a BlackBerry Torch that’s missing its battery. Then we went to the Maxis Centre at KLCC to find out if they accept them all and how much each of them are worth.

When we asked around the phone shops at shopping malls, most of them wouldn’t pay more than RM100 for old feature phones or outdated smart phones. You might get a similar or better deal for newer models as some of them are willing to accept the Note 3 for RM600 and the Galaxy S5 for RM700. Obviously you can probably get a higher price if you can get a direct buyer. For anything else, Maxis trade-up evaluation is on-par if not better than the normal dealers.

Cracks & Damages? No Problems

Some of you may have a beaten up device that’s still functional like our Galaxy S4. Even if the display is cracked or heavily scratched, Maxis is still accepting it for a minimum value of RM200, or RM300 if you’re a new subscriber (inclusive of new/port-in RM100 promo). Mind you that the extra RM100 for new subscribers will come as a monthly rebate of RM50 for 2 months, which is reflected in your bill.

If the device is non-functional, Maxis is still accepting it but with a minimum value of RM200. Take note however phones with bloated batteries will not be accepted for safety purposes and if you’re trading in an iPhone, it needs to be unlocked beforehand.

iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus Contract Plans

After handing over your old device, you’ll need to pick your desired iPhone model and a postpaid plan with 24 months contract. For a worry free experience, you can opt for its limitless talk and SMS bundled Maxis OnePlan (2GB internet inclusive) with 1GB of extra internet at RM158/month. For those wishing to commit less, there’s the iValue postpaid plans that start from just RM100/month.

During sign up, the trade-in amount will be used to offset the price of the new device. So if we trade-up the Galaxy S5 with Maxis as a new subscriber, we can get RM900 off (RM800 + RM100) from its bundled pricing. This means we could get the iPhone 6 16GB effectively for Free on iValue 3, or RM639 (before GST) on their MaxisOne Plan. Meanwhile if you’re using an iPhone 5 (valued at RM600), you could potentially pick up the iPhone 6 from as low as RM109 (before GST) on iValue 3 contract with Maxis as a new subscriber.

With its RM200 minimum trade-up guarantee and an extra RM100 off for new subscribers, it’s also a good opportunity to dispose that old dusty feature phone of yours. For existing Maxis subscribers with good payment records, they will waive the advance payment that’s usually required upfront when you sign on a contract.

The Maxis iPhone Trade Up program aims to be your one stop centre to make the iPhone 6 switch without the hassle of disposing your current phone the old fashion way. The whole process is seamless and you can walk in with your old phone and out with a brand new iPhone 6 in one single visit. With the extra savings, it is more worthwhile than to buy the iPhone 6 outright which costs at least RM2,702 with GST. To get started, just visit any Maxis Centre or Maxis Exclusive Partner nationwide with your current phone.
