With a tiny body and single button shooting, this is probably the smallest and simplest GoPro the company has ever produced to date.

Coming in at $399 (about RM 1521) this tiny cube-shaped shooter measures just 1.5 inches long, is waterproof up to 10 meters and is capable of shooting 1440p video at 30fps.

GoPro has done a lot in slimming down their cameras with the Session being the most unobtrusive model they have. It lacks some of the hardware that its bigger brother the GoPro Hero 4 has, but apparently doesn’t slack in terms of capability.

In a sense, the device is in the same vein as the HTC RE and the Yi Action Camera which also run on the same single button style of operation. The two are also a lot more affordable than the Session, with them being priced at RM 669 (from DirectD)and RM 429 respectively. While the Session does come with a strap, the HTC RE is probably easier to hold on to as it has a more ergonomic shape, albeit one shaped like a plastic tube.

However, if you want to change any of the settings on the camera you have to use included Wi-Fi remote (which is sold seperately) or go through the GoPro’s mobile app. It does have an absolutely tiny screen at the top of it but this is mainly to show you your battery level and active settings. You will still have to rely on an external device to view your videos and images. The Session also has two mics, one at the front and one at the rear that switch dynamically to reduce wind noise.

For storage, the Session can handle any microSD card with a class 10 or UHS-1 rating up to a capacity of 64GB. How much you will be able to cram into it though, depends a lot on your recording resolution.

There are some drawbacks to its compact size, one being it is incapable of recording in 4K, takes stills in 8 megapixels only and cannot record video above 100fps. But these seem to be relatively small trade-offs for what you’re already getting in this compact form factor. Regardless, like all GoPro devices the Session will have access to a small mountain of mounting options and accessories to choose from, which makes it even more versatile.

The GoPro Hero 4 Session is set to hit the market sometime next week, though we don’t know if it will be getting a Malaysian launch just yet. In the mean time, you can check out its product page here.
