Microsoft Office for Android is finally here

If you love to work on the go you’re in luck, Microsoft has just announced that the general availability for Word, Excel and Powerpoint for Android smartphones. With the preview announced about a month ago or so, the apps have already been available on tablet and other similar devices for quite some time now, catering to those who don’t want to be tied down to a desktop PC to get work done.

For those who are familiar with the Office suite, you will find the same touch-optimised interface as the tablet versions, but shrunk down to accommodate for smaller screen sizes. Controls are placed at the bottom of the screen as well, so they are in easy reach with just your thumbs alone. So you essentially can toss together a presentation, write a report or even get some charts together while on your morning commute.

You will also get OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, Box and SharePoint intergration so you can save your files and edit them on the cloud; freeing up space on your actual device.

Like Office for iOS and Android tablet, the core functions like viewing, creating and editing is available for free; but if you have an Office 365 subscription will get access to the entire gamut of editing features. You will also get 1TB of OneDrive storage and 60 minutes of unlimited worldwide calls per month on Skype. Microsoft is currently working with mobile phone companies to get the apps pre-loaded on their devices as well, so you will likely to see them appearing on your Android devices very soon.

Word, Excel and Powerpoint are already available for download from Google Play alongside already available Outlook, OneDrive and OneNote apps.
