If you’re looking for the best of Sony, it looks like the Xperia Z3+ won’t be launched in Malaysia anytime soon. However the folks at DirectD are now offering imported units which comes in either single SIM or Dual-SIM variants.
The Xperia Z3+ is offered at RM2,599, which is the same price as the Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9+ flagships that are being sold officially in Malaysia. For the Xperia Z3+ Dual-SIM version, it is offered slightly higher at RM2,699. Since this isn’t an official Sony Malaysia set, DirectD is giving its own 2 year warranty.
To recap, the Xperia Z3+ is the international variant of the Japan exclusive Xperia Z4. While the appearance looks the same as the current Xperia Z3, the Xperia Z3+ is actually thinner at 6.9mm (Z3: 7.3mm) and lighter at 144g (Z3: 152g). Another welcomed change is a cap-less microUSB port design, which makes it easier to charge without the need of removing flap covers. Like its previous models, it still maintains the highest waterproofing for a smart phone at IP68 rating. This allows it to be submerged under 1.5m of fresh water up to 30 minutes.
The front still gets a 5.2″ Full HD (1920×1080) display and under the hood, it gets Qualcomm’s top of the line 2.0GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 64-bit processor with 3GB of RAM. For storage there’s 32GB on-board which can be expanded using microSD card. As comparison, the current Z3 runs on a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and it gets just 16GB of storage.
For imaging, its main camera remains unchanged with a 20.7MP Exmor RS sensor with a 25mm f/2.0 lens. However the front camera has been upgraded with a 5MP shooter. In the battery department, the battery has shrunk from 3,100mAh on the Z3 to just 2,930mAh with the latest model, but Sony still claims to be able to provide up to 2 days of battery life per charge. With its quick charge feature, they reckon you can get a full day of use with just 45 minutes of charging.
