OnePlus 2 to cost more and it runs at lower speeds to stay cool

When OnePlus officially announced its decision to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor for its OnePlus 2, they knew people will start talking about its overheating concerns. In a bid to clear the air, the OnePlus team has posted a clarification on their forum to dispel rumours of its upcoming flagship killer.

In terms of pricing, they shared that the new Snapdragon 810 Octa-Core processor is much more advanced and complex compared to its Snapdragon 801 Quad-Core processor that’s powering the current OnePlus One. They shared that the cost of the processor is about 60% more and this will definitely drive the price beyond US$322 (about RM1,194).

At time of launch, the OnePlus One was priced at US$299 (about RM1,108) for 16GB and US$349 (about RM1,294) for its 64GB version. With the recent price slash, both models are now selling at US$249 (about RM923) and US$299 (about RM1,108) respectively. In Malaysia, the OnePlusOne is currenly sold at RM1,199 and it is exclusive to Maxis.

With regards to its processor, OnePlus 2 will be using the latest Snapdragon 810 V2.1 variant which supposedly offer better thermal efficiency than the earlier models powering the HTC One M9 and LG G Flex 2. They added that all of its 8 same cores are optimised for stability and they will run it at a lower 1.8GHz clock speed for it to stay cool. So in a way, the processor has been throttled considering the rest of the competition using the newer V2.1 variant like the Xperia Z3+/Z4 and Mi Note Pro are running its 4x Cortex-A57 cores at a higher 2.0GHz. However they reassured that they take the necessary steps for optimal performance so that you won’t have to settle.
