The Samsung Galaxy S6 active is finally launched with IP68 waterproof rating

We have reported on the tough, waterproof version of Samsung’s latest flagship devices a few times over the last couple of months with image leaks teasing its rugged looks and form. Now the device is finally official and it brings with it IP68 certification against the elements.

Sharing some features with the vanilla version of the Galaxy S6, the device has a 5.1 inch QHD Super AMOLED display and Exynos 7420 chipset as well as the 16 megapixel rear snapper and 5 megapixel front camera combo. However you do get a significant boost in the battery capacity with a big 3,500mAh battery that supports wireless charging. Sadly there is no microSD slot this time so you will only be getting 32GB of internal storage.

The device will also be running on Android 5.0.2 out of the box skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz.

As far as the IP68 rating is concerned, the Galaxy S6 active will be able to handle water of up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and is shock and dust proof with added thermal resistance to boot. This is the same as what the Sony Xperia Z3 has to offer in terms of water and dust resistance rating but with a much tougher outer shell. So if you accidentally drop it in the shower or down a rushing stream on your hike, the phone should be fine.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 active will be available in Camo White, Camo Blue or Gray starting June 12th. Unfortunately the device is an AT&T exclusive for the US but we are sure that you should be able to get your hands on one through gray importers.
