We reported earlier this week that ASUS was launching a selfie oriented smartphone and the very same was launched today at Computex 2015.
As predicted the smartphone has a 13 megapixel front and rear camera which sport Dual LED Real Tone flash on both ends for more natural looking selfies. The rear camera will also feature a rear laser autofocus as well as a large f/2.0 aperture.
In terms of form factor, the Zenfone Selfie looks very similar to that of the Zenfone 2, especially in terms of the volume rocker come shutter button out back.
The Zenfone Selfie itself will be sporting a 5.5 inch IPS display with Full HD resolution at 403ppi that features Gorilla Glass 4 to protect against those accidental dings and scratches. Under the hood it will have a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615, but we have yet to confirm the amount of RAM the device will be packing but we suspect it would be around the 2 – 3GB mark.
The device does share a lot in common with the HTC Desire EYE, that also features similar 13 megapixel cameras with dual-tone flash front and back. However the Selfie doesn’t enjoy the same water resistance that the Desire EYE has but instead benefits from a rear laser autofocus that should result in faster focusing. The Desire EYE also has a better Snapdragon 801 processor as opposed to the Selfie’s Snapdragon 615.
Other camera-related enhancements include a HDR selfie mode, real time Beautification, Low Light Selfie and a new ZenMotion gesture dedicated to snapping you a selfie. The Zenfone line of phones are already well known to have good low light capabilities so we believe the Zenfone Selfie won’t be too different.
The Zenfone Selfie will have a bunch of optional accessories available as well, namely the ZenFone Selfie Swing which essentially functions as a stand for the phone. You also get the ability to immediately view your selfie through the ZenFone Selfie MyView case without having to turn on your display so you can save on power.
The device will be rocking a lot of different colour variants to choose from, with both matte and metallic colour options with matching MyView cases. Price and availability have also yet to be confirmed but we should find out relatively soon.
