HTC is finally bringing its latest flagship smart phone into Malaysia but it may not be the One that you’ve been waiting for. The HTC One M9 was announced during MWC 2015 and it offers a 5.0″ Full HD display with Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 810 Octa-Core processor with 3GB of RAM. However the One that’s coming to Malaysia is the HTC One M9+ that was launched in China earlier this month. As teased a while back, we are getting just the One M9+ and HTC isn’t bringing the 5″ One M9 into local market.
Is the M9+ better since it has the + sign? Well it all depends on what you’re looking for.
Despite the plus sign, the One M9+ is slightly bigger at 5.2″ but it does a higher Quad HD resolution of 2560×1440, which pushes a pixel density 534ppi. As comparison, the 5″ One M9 settles for a full HD 1920×1080 resolution that gives it a pixel density of 441ppi. Under the hood, the One M9+ runs on a 2.2GHz MediaTek MT6795 Octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM and HTC reckons that it shouldn’t differ much in actual usage compared to Qualcomm’s top end Snapdragon 810 series processor. On-board it gets 32GB of on-board storage which is also expandable with microSD up to 128GB.
Another key difference is the main camera as the One M9+ get an additional secondary unit, making it a duo-camera set up with a 20MP unit. Meanwhile at the front, it gets 4MP Ultrapixel camera for selies and a fingerprint scanner on a capacitive home button that’s placed right smack in the middle of its boom sound speaker grill. Despite going slightly bigger in size, the One M9+ retains the same 2,840mAH capacity battery as the original One M9.
Another drawback of the One M9+ is its lower Cat4 4G LTE support, instead of Cat9 4G LTE with the One M9 (with Carrier Aggregation). From what we are told, the One M9 is only heading towards developed markets while the rest including Malaysia, India and China would be getting the One M9+ instead.
So the HTC One M9+ is different from what we’ve seen at MWC 2015. Priced at RM2,599, it carries the same price tag as the Samsung Galaxy S6 32GB and it will be available on 30th April 2015. As comparison, the HTC One M8 was launched last year at RM2,399 with 16GB of on-board storage.
