Is Huawei Malaysia teasing its upcoming P8 flagship?

UPDATE: The teaser is merely for a GroufieWithHuawei contest.

Huawei Malaysia has started a series of teasers in the past few days, rallying its fans to gather more people for a groufie. Without giving much details, Huawei Malaysia claims to be revealing something amazing today and we have a hunch that this is a new device. Fresh from last week’s Huawei P8 announcement, this could be a hint of its Malaysian launch considering we are among the first wave of 30 countries to have it.

From the 2 teasers, despite showing its current Ascend P7, there are some elements of the P8 including the light painted infinity sign and that mystery hooded guy from their official teaser. However its activity of getting people to take a group/wide selfie could be a contest to win special invites to a launch, which seems to be a thing these days for Chinese/Taiwanese brands.

The P8 is the successor of the current Ascend P7 and it gets a more upmarket unibody metal design. The front gets a 5.2″ Full HD display and powering it is their in-house Kirin 930/935 Octa-Core processor with 3GB of RAM. For storage, it gets 16GB for its standard version and a much generous 64GB option for its Premium model. For taking pictures, it gets a 13MP camera which shoots in 4 colours (RGBW) instead of a conventional RGB set up. For the front, it gets an 8MP selfie shooter. Keeping the lights on is a 2,600mAh capacity battery and it maintains an impressive thickness of 6.4mm.

Other than the P8, there’s a larger P8 Max phablet with a huge 6.8″ Full HD display. It has similar specs as the standard P8 but it gets a smaller 5MP front camera but a larger 4,360mAh capacity battery. Despite its larger dimensions, it still manages to be thinner than the iPhone 6 Plus at only 6.8mm. You can read more about both devices in our P8 announcement post.
