GST: Apple increase prices for iPhone and iPads in Malaysia

As GST kicks in today in Malaysia, owning the latest gadget with a shiny Apple logo will cost you even more. This comes right after its recent price hike on the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 5S.

Now the iPhone 6 is priced from RM2,702 for 16GB, which is RM303 more since its launch in Malaysia last last year. Meanwhile the phablet sized iPhone 6 Plus now costs more than RM3,000 at RM3,126. This is an increase of RM377. The same 6% increase also applies on their iPads in Malaysia but it isn’t so much as it left unchanged during the price revision that happened a few weeks ago.

Initially it was expected that Samsung would be pricing its latest Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge higher than its Apple counterparts. With the latest price revision, Apple would continue to command a more “premium” price tag as Samsung is expected to price the Galaxy S6 (32GB) at RM2,599 while its Galaxy S6 edge (32GB) at RM3,099, inclusive of GST.
