Xiaomi introduces a special Mi Note just for the ladies

In conjunction with its 5th anniversary, Xiaomi brings a new variant for the Mi Note. But before you get all excited, the new Mi Note is not getting a new processor or more memory, instead it is specially designed for the ladies. It will be shod in a wonderfully feminine shade of pink.

Despite being virtually unchanged, since it was launched in January this year, the Mi Note is no slouch. The 5.7-inch full HD (1920×1080) developed by Sharp/JDI boasts a contrast ratio of 1400:1, it’s protected with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 and features a 3.0 thin bezel. The device is a workhorse with a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor mated 3GB of RAM that’s sure to keep up with the most demanding of tasks and multitasking processes. You get an option of 16GB or 64GB of storage and a dual 4G SIM card slot — one slot housing a micro SIM while the other, a nano SIM. In terms of battery, the Mi Note packs a 3,000mAh unit developed by Sony and LG.

In the camera department, you get a 13MP main camera complete with a 6-element f/2.0 lens and an optical image stabiliser — a rarity for devices under the RM1,800 mark, a price point where the Mi Note is expected to be positioned at when it officially comes to Malaysia in Q2 2015. There’s also a Phillips-sourced dual-tone flash and a 4MP front camera with a 2 micron/pixel sensor that Xiaomi claims is larger than the average pixel size in a smartphone. The larger pixel size helps capture more light and in theory, should produce better pictures under low light conditions with less noise.

In terms of hardware, the Mi Note is hard to beat especially at its relatively low price point but its not without its flaws, the device is missing a micro Sd card slot, and that is a major turn-off for a lot of people.

The Mi Note is expected to retail for about RM1,300 for the 16GB version and around RM1,600 for the 32GB version. Xiaomi says the Mi Note will be available in Q2 2015 but have not confirmed what colours will be available. For more on the Mi Note, check out our launch coverage, here.
