This is BlackBerry’s new affordable full touch screen smart phone

BlackBerry is trying to make its mark at MWC 2015 by introducing its new BlackBerry Leap. This is yet another affordable BlackBerry full touch screen device targeted at youths and it sits right above the current entry-level BlackBerry Z3. It gets a similar sized 5″ display but pushes a higher HD 720p resolution, which gives it a pixel density of 294ppi.

Under the hood, it gets a dated dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Plus (Is Qualcomm still making these?) that’s also powering the old BlackBerry Z10 and it is mated to 2GB of RAM. On-board there’s 16GB of storage that can be expanded with microSD up to 128GB.

Photography is handled by a 8MP main camera capable of shooting Full HD 1080p videos while selfie shots are taken with a front 2MP unit. Another notable upgrade from the Z3 is a larger 2,800mAh battery that claims to last 25 hours with heavy use. Connectivity wise, it supports 4G LTE along with the standard 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 LE. Overall, the BlackBerry Leap is slightly thicker and heavier than the Z3 with a thickness of 9.5mm while weighing 170g (BlackBerry Z3: 9.3mm, 164g).

Out of the box, it runs on the latest BlackBerry 10.3.1 that comes with BlackBerry Blend and BlackBerry Assistant. According to CrackBerry, the Leap will be available starting next month in Europe with a US$275 price tag (about RM999). For more info, you can check out BlackBerry Leap‘s product page.
