The Lumia 640 and 640 XL are Microsoft’s latest budget offerings

After yesterday’s news blunder which accidentally leaked out Microsoft’s new Windows phones, the two new Lumia phones finally been officially launched at MWC 2015.

The Lumia 640 and 640 XL are Microsoft’s latest budget phones whose launch wasn’t a tremendous surprise considering everyone’s trying to corner the budget market this time around. Both of them will have a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400, 1GB RAM and will have 720p resolutions though what would ultimately set them apart would be screen size and their rear cameras.

More after the break.

The Lumia 640 has a 5 inch screen and a 8 megapixel snapper out back while the 640 XL packs a 5.7 inch screen and a 13 megapixel Zeiss-lens camera in what looks to me Microsoft’s first budget phablet. Both of them will also sport larger batteries than their predecessors  with a 2500mAh battery for the 640 and a large 3000mAh battery for the 640 XL, and will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 when it’s available. There will also be a year’s subscription for Office 365 as well as 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage to come with the phones, which is icing on the cake.

The smartphones are expected to be available in May this year and will be hitting the market for $155 for the 3G version and $177 for the LTE model of the Lumia 640. The Lumia 640 XL on the other hand will be rolling in later this month for about $211 for the 3G model and $244 for the LTE version in a variety of eye striking colours.

We are in Barcelona for MWC 2015 so stay tuned for more information as it comes.
