Tomorrow will be a big day for Samsung as they will be launching its latest flagships, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. Both devices have been leaked extensively and it marks Samsung’s fresh approach for their high-end smart phone.
Lewis, the iPhone 6 Plus bender from UnboxedTherapy has shared more exclusive details for both devices. If you’re clueless on what to expect, read on to find out what we know so far about the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.
Design
Samsung is trying hard to shed its old plasticky image of the past. After introducing its Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy A series with a metal frame, the new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will get a unibody aluminium frame that’s encased with glass for both front and back.
With that, the new device would be their most premium feeling smart phone to hold but it sacrifices a couple of things such as a removable battery and even a microSD slot. Another huge step back is the lack of water resistance, which came as standard on the Galaxy S5. The back features a protruding camera design which is said to be fitted with a f/1.9 lens for better low light imaging. The heart rate sensor, which is traditionally placed below the camera is now placed vertically on the right, similar to the Galaxy Alpha.
Hardware
Both Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are expected to be identical in terms of hardware. The front display is said to be a 5.1″ with a Quad HD resolution (2560×1440). Like the Galaxy Note 4, the new flagship will be using Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass 4 that could withstand drops better. Apart from the double curve screen on both sides, the Galaxy S6 edge is reported to have a slightly larger battery capacity of about 50mAh.
Powering the device will be an Exynos Octa-Core processor that’s expected to be superior than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 offering with greater performance while maintaining thermal efficiency. In addition, it will be mated to 3GB of RAM, which is more than its previous Galaxy S models.
Probably the biggest addition is a built-in wireless charging feature and if we read their teaser correctly, it could support adaptive fast charging as well. Another huge improvement would be its fingerprint scanner. On the current Galaxy models, Samsung still requires the old fashion swiping method which isn’t practical to use with a single hand. The new Galaxy S6 fingerprint scanner is said to be having a one-touch unlock similar to iPhone’s TouchID and Huawei’s Ascend Mate 7.
Options
The Galaxy S6 is expected to be available in Black, White, Gold and Blue colours. It is the same story for the Galaxy S6 edge but it gets an additional exclusive green colour option as well. Without a microSD slot, the on-board storage would be critical for users and it appears that Samsung would be releasing both models in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage capacities. The built-in storage, isn’t just your average run of the mill eMMC 5.0 memory and the Galaxy S6 will be using Samsung’s new Universal Flash Storage than claims to be up to 2.7X faster than other solutions.
