If you’re on a tight budget and the Galaxy J1 is just too low rate for your money, here comes another affordable device that tries gain a foothold of the competitive entry-level market. Samsung has just announced the availability of its Galaxy Core Prime in Malaysia and it carries an entry-level price tag of RM499.

What you’ll get is a dual-SIM 3G HSPA+ device with a 4.5″ (800×480) display and it runs on a Quad-Core 1.2GHz processor (presumably Snapdragon 410) with 1GB of RAM. There’s also 8GB of storage that’s expandable with microSD.

Also thrown in is a 5MP camera that’s capable of doing HD 720p videos and a front facing 2.0MP camera for selfies. Powering the device is a removable 2,000mAh capacity battery which can be stretched further if needed with Ultra Power Saving Mode.

Overall, this looks like a device that tries to take on smart phones like the Redmi 2 but it falls short on the display, battery capacity and 4G LTE connectivity. Another consolation is that the overall Galaxy Core Prime is slightly thinner at 8.8mm and lighter at 130g. If you have RM499, you could also consider Samsung’s new entry-level 7″ tablet, the Galaxy Tab 3V.

Check out more product shots after the break.
