The ASUS fonepad 7 gets an incremental update

For those who already love ASUS’s fonepads, this might come as a bit of a treat. Having just announced the New ASUS fonepad 7 (FE170CG) 7-inch phablet, they’ve updated it with better specs (FE171CG) and made it much skinnier than it’s predecessor.

The new ASUS fonepad 7 however will not be a replacement for the original fonepad 7, but rather presents itself as an option for those who want a little extra.

Under the hood you will find the same processor that powered the last fonepad 7 phablet which is an Intel Atom Multi-Core Z2520 1.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 16GB expandable storage up to 64GB via the MicroSD slot and a huge 4000mAh battery. It will also run on Android KitKat 4.4 (with ASUS ZenUI) straight out of the box, as well as sports 3G and dual-sim capabilities. The IPS display however is strangely still pushing a lower resolution (1024×600) than the first iteration of 1280×800.

The cameras have been updated to a better 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera, where the rear camera features a large f/2.4 aperture lens as well as a blue glass optical filter. It’s also ASUS’s very first phablet to feature PixelMaster Low Light Mode for sharper low-light shots.

The phablet has also lost a bit of weight around the edges, weighing in at 280g and is just 7.9mm thick which is a lot considering how ‘weighty’ it’s predecessor was

The ASUS fonepad 7 will hit the market by early February this year and will be available in Black, White, Gold and Red, priced at RM 529.
